It is always a great honor to meet with his Excellency Paul Biya. We discussed our continuing and successful partnership in the war against Boko Haram. I congratulated him on the success of the Cameroonian Armed Forces in this fight. I also expressed my sincere and deep condolences on the death of General Kodji and his three comrades in the tragic helicopter accident late last month.
We also discussed the continued evolution and growth of our broader bilateral relationship and partnership within the context of the inauguration of President Trump and the confirmation of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.
Lastly we agreed that democracy, rule of law, respect for human rights, and inclusive and legitimate consultations across all segments and sectors of society are important to secure a bright future for all Cameroonians. I congratulated the President on his continuing effort to build a transparent and corruption-free business climate that attracts the investment Cameroon needs to create jobs and employ its vibrant youth. The young people are truly the future of this great nation, and it is important to include them in discussions and consultations about the future of the country.
