Hugo Broos takes swipe at Joel Matip following Cameroon's AFCON victory

LIVERPOOL defender Joel Matip will regret not playing for the Africa Cup of Nations champions Cameroon, according to manager Hugo Broos. Joel Matip turned down the opportunity to represent Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations due to an ongoing dispute with the Cameroonian Football Federation.
The Liverpool defender was one of eight players who refused their call-ups and missed out on winning the tournament.

Cameroon pulled off a surprise 2-1 victory against Egypt in the final and manager Hugo Broos has claimed the absent players will regret it.
"There was a lot of trouble before, players who wouldn't come with us," Broos said.
"Okay, it's their decision, but maybe they are saying now to themselves, 's***! Why didn't I go with them?'
"We came here and I think nobody thought we would go so far.
"We tried to get through the first round. We did it. So we said, 'okay, let's see what happens against Senegal'. We won the game again.
"Then you get a boost of confidence and from that time we believed that if we got a bit lucky we could win the final."
Matip has 27 caps for Cameroon but has not featured for his country since the 2014 Brazil World Cup.
