Three Congolese nominated for 2016 Nobel Peace Prize

The Democratic Republic of Congo’s ‘Mama Jeanne’, and ‘Mama Jeannette’ as well as Denis Mukwege are contenders for the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize for their fight against sexual violence.

Jeanne Banyere and Jeannette Bindu have used their church network since the early 2000, to seek out survivors of sexual violence across the country, providing support and ensuring that they receive treatment and help.

They also work alongside gynaecologist Mukwege, who set up the Panzi Hospital in Bakuvu, offering physical and emotional treatment to hundreds of women who are raped.

The Nobel Peace Prize will be announced in Oslo on Friday October the 7th.
