Lionel Messi scored on his return from international retirement as Argentina beat Uruguay 1-0 to go top of the South American World Cup qualifying group. The star striker scored the winning goal in the 42nd minute on his return to the national team on Thursday night. Messi decided to stop playing for his country in June, but reversed the decision two months later.
Though not at their best, Argentina and Messi did enough to edge the contest against a tough Uruguay side. The match also witnessed a crazy incident when a fan breached security to meet Messi.
The pitch invader fell to his knees and even kissed the Barcelona star's feet. He was then escorted away by the police.
