Four fake price controllers nabbed my police in Soa

On August 5, four fake price controllers were arrested and taken to the Judicial Police headquarters at Elig-Essono, Yaounde, for interrogation. The three men and a lady were nabbed by police as they tried to extort money and wine from a shopkeeper in Soa, on the outskirts of Yaounde.

They reportedly told their victims they were on an official mission to ensure that local business people were not selling above approved prices.

Addressing journalists in his office in Yaounde on August 5, 2016, Senior Police Superintendent Kouidja Semen Justin of the National Judicial Police headquarters, said before giving in to the demand, the victim crosschecked with the Divisional Delegate for Trade for Mefou and Afamba if his office had dispatched such a team to Soa.

When the response was negative, he immediately called the police toll-free number, 1500 and also informed local police, who did not waste time in rushing to the scene.

Two of them considered by the police as the masterminds of the attempted extortion (a man and the lady) were retained in custody while the other two were freed on bail.
