A presidentitial pardon has been granted to the Cameroonian born lawyer with French nationality, Lydienne Yen Eyoum who was arrested in Janaury 2010 on charges of embezzlement. The French lady had been serving a 25 year prison term at the Kondengui High Security Post in Yaounde, accused by the Special Criminal Court of siphoning FCFA 1,077 billion (1.5 million euros).
One of the advisers to the case, Christian Charriere-Bournazel Master, has revealed that the clemency granted to Lydienne Yen Eyoum comes after diplomatic negotiations between France and Cameroon.
President Francois Hollande spoke lengthily on the freedom of the accused when he visited Cameroon in July 2015. On the 9th of June 2015, the Supreme Court confirmed Lydienne Eyoum’s sentence after she had exhausted all her appeals.
