Lionel Messi and father sentenced to 21 months in jail over tax charges

Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi and his father have been slapped with a 21 months jail sentence after being found guilty on three counts of tax fraud. According to a statement from the Spanish court on Wednesday, the 29-year-old Argentina striker will also have to pay a fine of 1.5 million Euros. Messi can however, appeal through the country's Supreme Court. Messi has been fined two million euros. In Spain, sentences of less than two years for first offences are suspended, meaning neither man will go to jail.
