The manufacturer has identified errors and irregularities on the package and the results of laboratory tests, which had to give more information of the product composition, are still unknown till date.
It is to block the circulation of this vaccine if it already exists in the country, that the minister has called the heads of the national supply system structures of essential drugs (Système national d’approvisionnement en médicament essentiel, SYNAME), pharmacies and other categories of facilities, to ensure that the vaccine is not included in their inventory. And if that’s the case, the Minister instructs them to stop all distribution and quarantine that vaccine.
Health professionals therefore recommend that those who need to be immunized against yellow fever should go only to the approved health center in the country.
According to Dr. Emah Manda, head physician of the Medical Center of Mendong in Yaounde, taking a fake vaccine is synonymous to not being vaccinated. Though some pharmaceutical regulators think it is worst because it creates a problem rather than solving its intended.
Dr. Emah Manda continues that, the vaccine is currently the safest mode of prevention of protecting people against yellow fever. A single dose immunizes the person for life only when it is the right vaccine. Against this disease, there is no specific treatment, as is the case with malaria, AIDS or other diseases. “It is a symptomatic treatment which is administered to the patient. We treat fever and other signs. But there is not a product reserved for yellow fever typically, “he insists. Hence it is vital to get immunized.
