The Vatican has confirmed that Pope Francis will feature in a movie titled 'Beyond the Sun'. The plot of the movie revolves around a family adventure and invloves children from different cultural backgrounds who emulate the apostles while searching for Christ in the world they live in.
The Pope himself came up with the idea of the movie and approached the film-makers at AMBI Pictures asking them to produce it with the aim of portraying Gospel passages and parables to children convincingly. It is worth noting that no Roman Catholic pope has ever acted in a big screen production, so Pope Francis will be the first.
All proceeds from 'Beyond the Sun' will go to El Almendro and Los Hogares de Cristo, charities in Argentina that provide support for risk-prone children and young needy adults. AMBI pictures co-founder Andrea Iervolino said in a statement that working with the Holy Father will be a highlight of his career. "Our excitement and gratitude toward His Holiness Pope Francis for participating in this film surpasses words. This is not just a movie for us, it’s a message, and who better to have on your side to deliver such an important societal and spiritual message than the Pope himself?" According to the Vatican, the pope won't act in the movie, but video clips of the pope will be used. Monsignor Dario Edoardo Viganň of the Vatican stated, "video clips of the Pope could appear in the film." ''The Pope is not an actor"
